Week 4: Street Photography Task
For this week's task we were given the following instructions:
Selection:
This was a good eye opener and definitely changed my perspective on viewing images. After grouping them straight away based on first glances and opinions, i was told to start again, but spend longer analysing each image. This time round i was slower, i gave images that i thought were dull and boring the benefit of the doubt. When doing this, i was able to interpret each image differently, viewing the composition, subjects and perspectives in more detail. I was more open to looking at my images in an unusual way to; i did not look at them, i studied and interpreted them.
Example:
For future photo shoots, i will definitely take this on board as i could find images that may not look appealing at a first glance, but when studying them at a deeper level i could find stronger images that before hand, i would have put to one side immediately.
- Set the camera up in Manual mode, with a shutter eed of1/125 sec or 1/250 sec, an ISO setting of 400 or 800 and adjust aperture as required to expose properly
- Take the route between these four destinations: https://goo.gl/p9MhO7
- On route between these venues capture at least 150 images of people.
Tips:
- Don’t be precious and don’t worry about errors.
- If anyone notices and objects explain and offer to remove that image.
- This is a numbers game: quantity comes before quality.
- If you have been thinking of a theme for your photo-essay you may stumble across subjects of relevance.
- Avoid using the camera-back screen and don’t edit or make decisions about what to keep. Keep everything
What i expected vs the outcome:
I had expected the task to be easy, as i was just going to take pictures around me. I didn't think i would have to worry about the composition too much or the subjects. However, during the photo shoot i found it quite hard to find pictures that were interesting at all. Creating a goof composition was all about patience and anticipation, two things i do not have much of. Therefore the shoot took a lot longer than i expected and i was left disappointed with the outcome of images.
Selection:
When returning back to class we were told to open up all of our images onto Adobe Bridge. This application was explained as a way to go through all of your images easily and catagorise them on which ones you liked and did not like. To do this we created keywords that we could associate each image with. In the example below it shows keywords such as weddings and birthdays etc, however in this case we created key words such as: Definitely, Maybe, No.
