Week 4: ISO

ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The lower the ISO number, the more sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain will be. Choosing ISO depends on a number of factors such as light, grain and movement.

If your environment is bright, you will most likely use a lower ISO setting of around 400/800, this will create crisp images, when using a large aperture you can capture shallow depth of field in images which will enhance the subject.

Darker lighting conditions e.g indoors or in the evenings, require a higher ISO setting-usually around 1200-3200. This will allow more light to be exposed to the image. Shooting in higher ISO's also change the settings for shutter speed and aperture, allowing you to also shoot higher shutter speeds and/or lower apertures. However the higher the ISO number you chose, the noisier the shots will be. The image will become grainy and the quality will not look as good.
